1 - ON FARM HELP: POSSITION FILLED
Full time farm help needed. Old Friends Farm is Certified Organic, and specializes in cut flowers, salad greens, and ginger, as well as a variety of other crops. We attend 4 farmers markets each week, and sell wholesale to restaurants, florists, and grocery stores.
Applicant should have prior farm experience, be capable of working independently as well as with a crew, have strong attention to detail while keeping efficiency a priority. Applicant needs to be able to work in any weather condition all day, and maintain a positive attitude. Must be passionate about growing flowers as well as food crops, and be supportive of sustainable, local Organic agriculture. Applicant must be committed to being a lively member of the farm crew, and must be teachable. Must have own reliable transportation.
Daily responsibilities will include: All aspects of harvest, including picking, stripping and transporting, requiring use of sharp tools, extended periods of time crouching/squatting and attention to detail/quality control. Field work such as transplanting, weeding (by hoe and by hand), fertilizing, removal/setup of materials such as floating row cover and irrigation, operating a farm vehicle, and any other field task as necessary. Non-field tasks include: washing/processing produce for sale/storage, preparing market and wholesale orders, an occasional local delivery. Applicant will also have the opportunity to go into boston to help with Farmers Market. On this day, the “marketeer” is the face of the farm, and must represent the farm with professionalism. Marketeer responsibilities include all aspects of sales, display set up, maintenance and take down. Confident social skills, ability to multitask under pressure, money handling, and simple math a must.
Time commitment: 8am - 4:45pm Mon-Thurs, June 2nd - through September
8am - 9:30pm on market days (details to be explained)
Pay is $9/ hr, a bag of greens/week as well as other farm products as available.

2 - MARKET ASSISTANTS (2 positions):
1st position: Part-time Farmers’ Market Assistant (June through November, 8-10 hrs./wk.) Assist with management of market stand Fridays at Copley Square in Boston from 10am-7pm.
2nd Position: Part-time Farmers Market Assistant (July through October, 7-8 hrs./wk.) Assist with managment of market stand Tuesdays at the Newton market at Cold Spring Park on Beacon St. from 12:30-7pm.
The Market Assistant is the "face of the farm." Responsibilities include setting up and taking down the stand, maintaning a clean, functional, welcoming sales space, multitasking all customer interactions and sales transactions. Assistant must enjoy working with the public, have a knowledge of local/Organic agriculture, and maintain a clean, approachable, friendly presence. Previous retail/customer service experience desired but not a must. Boston/Newton-area resident preferred.
Pay starts at $9/hr, and is based on experience.
