Old Friends Farm grows products that we love, and we hope you like them too! All products are Certified Organic and Certified Naturally Grown.

FLOWERS

We grow over 200 varieties of flowers.  With this colorful palette, we design arrangements that impart wildly beautiful, tender, sweet, enchanted, and magical expressions.  Unlike conventionally grown flowers, Old Friends Farm flowers are safe in your child's hands and on your dinner table.  Our growing, harvesting, and processing techniques reward you with clean, stunning and long lasting bouquets.

SALAD GREENS

Our Greens Mix is a blend of tender greens, chosen for flavor and nutrition.  It is carefully harvested and washed.  This mix does not contain any lettuce, and therefore can be enjoyed raw or steamed.  Expect flavor and personality.  This is no ordinary salad mix! It has a personality that customers love!  The variety of greens in our mix changes with the seasons, and always has multiple flavors, colors, tenderness, and textural variety.  It is not watered down with lettuce,  and therefore has a longer shelf life.

Old Friends Farm Greens Mix may contain any number of the following throughout the growing season from April until November: Tatsoi, Mizuna, Mustards, Red Express, Red Garnet Amaranth, Red Russian Kale, Wrinkle Crinkled Cress, Blue Kale, Ruby Red and Rainbow Swiss Chard, Pea Sprouts, and other seasonal varieties.

Why no lettuce in this mix?  Lots of reasons!  We want our salad to stay fresh and be packed full of taste and nutrition.  We choose greens that are high in vitamins and nutrients and stay fresh for longer.  Enjoy!

GINGER

In 2006, and 2007, Old Friends Farm received SARE Grants to experiment with growing ginger in a northeast greenhouse as a way to expand the uses of the greenhouse resource, create a new local product and increase profit and sustainability for the farm.  The ginger was planted in the spring into bags of soil and grown entirely in the greenhouse, which creates a Zone 10 environment.  In late summer, the ginger was harvested regularly for 6 weeks and sold at farmers market.  The ginger was spicy and flavorful, skinless and had a smooth texture without inner fibers.  Response at market was excellent.  Further adjustments are needed, but the potential seems tangible and we are eager to continue to explore the sustainability of growing ginger again next season.

HEIRLOOM TOMATOES

Please enjoy our tasty and colorful heirloom tomatoes.  Although most go to our local chefs, some will be at our farmers markets also.  Fruits of the 2006 season include: Striped German, Brandywine, Green Zebra, Yellow Currant, Red Currant, Husk Cherry, Orange Cherry, and Cherokee Purple.  Call in the basil, olive oil, and mozzarella...these special gems are a sure taste of summer!

GARLIC

Old Friends Farm grows hard and soft neck garlic for culinary and decorative purposes.  Look for our garlic flowers in early summer arrangements, and delicious braids and wreaths in the autumn.  Eat up!  Garlic makes you strong and healthy!

SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS

Growing shiitakes is an art.  They are rustic and beautiful, with a brown cap and pure white gills.  They have a firm texture and a delicious taste.  They can be enjoyed raw or cooked, absorb marinade well, and are a great addition to the grill.  In addition to their fantastic culinary elements, Shiitakes have been proven to contain anti-cholesterol, anti-tumor, and immuno-potentiator compounds.
